Description -Are you ready to make your mark? - If you're a Senior Staff Engineering Analyst -we have an exciting opportunity for you! -The Sr. Staff Engineering Analyst (level 5), reports to Engineering Leadership and whose focus is performing complex product/system design, mentoring, driving process improvements, strategic planning and presentations. This position provides new intellectual property to the organization, as well as technical leadership to the enterprise. The Sr. Staff Engineering Analyst provides leadership in the development of industry standards, and has a high level of industry/Customer contact and industry awareness. This position may participate in enterprise negotiation as well as providing technical evaluation of new opportunities within the PLC process. The Sr. Staff Engineering Analyst may also develop technology roadmaps and set technical strategy and direction, and has a strong relationship with Customer, Supplier, individuals and organizations on a systems/standards basis.What You Will Be DoingDirects and coordinates all engineering analysis aspects of several complex and detailed analysis projects, which may include project management as well as engineering tasks.May carry out complex or novel research assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.Teach and mentor levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 engineers and analysts in analysis and problem solving methods. Is active in the establishment of design and analysis standards. Mentors lower level Analysts.Participates in peer and design reviews. Review, critique, and edit reports.Develop/improve techniques and tools to assist project and design engineering. Oversees, edits, compiles contributions from other analysts.Interacts with internal departments and customers to proactively identify and mitigate design risks associated with their analysis discipline and prioritize impact on overall business needs.Creates analysis models to support robust and reliable designs. Validate model results against test data, identify any significant differences and source. Develop standard modeling methods to close any significant gaps. Work with test engineering to better align test and analysis methods and results.Writes reports and gives presentations to customers and high level internal leadership. Reviews analysis reports written by others, and establishes the expectations for the contents of reports. May peer review journals or present at industry conferences and may participate as a liaison with universities and other institutions.Demonstrates awareness of multiple and conflicting customer requirements and defines analysis objectives which specifically addresses the requirements and verifies compliance and balance.Supports or leads failure investigations and drive to verification of corrective action.Assist Test Engineering with test planning - gage location, gage ranging, support Test Readiness Reviews.May independently runs or leads IRAD/special projects to develop novel technologies, or methods.May leads or oversees failure investigations and develops effective corrective actions at both the design and process levels.Plans and coordinates dynamic modeling and simulation for complex systems and sub-systems.May plan and coordinate creation of control models and control algorithms or control law for complex electric, electromechanical or hydraulic actuation systems.Coordinates design and execution test plans to validate dynamic performance of an actuator, valve or fuel system.Provides general dynamics expertise and dynamics-related design guidance to NPI and Systems design teams.Develop sophisticated tools for initial sizing, system architecture, and simulation to support development of Analysts and Engineers.Provides direct support of NPI, Applications and Sales by modeling proposed systems and analyzing dynamic requirements vs. capabilities.May contribute to formal customer proposals.May provide dynamics expertise and consultation on large-scale systems and customer fuel systems.Materials and Equipment Used:PC and related equipment.Qualifications -Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Strong knowledge of standards and the ability to apply complex groupings of standards into designs.Ability to quickly learn, interpret and apply new standards. May contribute to industry standards.Complete understanding of component functions and testing requirements.A bility to interpret engineering data and drawings pertinent to focus role area.Provides necessary guidance for proper usage of tools.Solid use of DFSS tools and methodologies; Solid knowledge of engineering quality systems (examples: PLC, engineering change, configuration management).Supports Enterprise-wide process improvements.Effective time management skills. Able to manage multiple activities and competing priorities and long-term corporate vision.Has company recognized expertise and may have industry recognized expertise.Aligns with Woodward's business objectives and strategies; ability to balance activities which can result in significant financial impact.May lead small project teams. Participates in setting technical direction. Provides technical problem-solving guidance to others.Highly refined written/verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability in giving presentations; expert technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.). Represents Woodward in the industry.Can evaluate/validate multiple tools and methodologies to effectively solve complex technical problems. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerances as well as shop standards and procedures. Knowledge of the interaction of processes and environmental factors on the physical behavior of materials. Expert knowledge and understanding of state of the art system modeling and dynamics analysis tools.Expert understanding of dynamics analysis and validation processes. Proficient understanding of mechanical, electrical and software design. Detailed understanding in at least two of these areas. Expert problem solving/troubleshooting complex components, systems and subsystems.
