Job Description:
Job Title: Pediatric, Nursery, Labor and Delivery Nurse
Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric, Nursery, Labor and
Delivery Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Rotating Hours per Shift: 36
Experience: Minimum 5 years License: Current, valid RN license from
the state and in good standing with the Board of Nursing
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP Must-Have: Experience in a
hospital preferred Description: The Registered Nurse provides and
coordinates patient care through assessment, evaluation, and
treatment with a primary goal of achieving wellness and recovery.
Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects
of care for patients within the scope of practice are required. The
nurse provides education to patients according to their needs.
Transcription, utilization, and implementation of protocols and
physician orders are necessary. Coordination of the healthcare team
and delegation of appropriate tasks to ancillary personnel is
expected. Other duties may be assigned. Graduation from an
accredited school of nursing is required. Previous experience in a
hospital is preferred. Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification must be maintained throughout employment. Current,
valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is
necessary if performing circulating or recovery room for C-section,
as determined by the Department Director. Current, valid Pediatric
Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required for caring
for pediatrics. Current, valid Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
certification must be maintained throughout employment. Nurses
working in Labor and Delivery must complete the Intermediate
Electronic Fetal Monitoring class within the first year after
orientation. Labor nurses must also complete the Advanced
Electronic Fetal Monitoring Class within three years of completing
labor orientation. Excellent customer service skills are essential,
including a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy, and a
helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the phone.
Effective communication with staff, managers, and the general
public, both verbally and in writing, is necessary. Demonstrable
effective listening skills are needed. Excellent organization and
time management skills, with the ability to establish priorities
effectively, are required. Exceptional problem-solving skills must
be possessed. The ability to work effectively without immediate
supervision is expected. Proficiency in learning new computer
software programs is necessary. The ability to recognize and
protect confidential information is essential. Demonstration of
ethical and legal accountability for the position is required.
