Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Data Analytics team's mission is to report, visualize and analyze institutional data and make it useful, accessible, actionable, and aligned with data-informed decision-making ideals.

Objectives & Principles:

* Ensure high level of alignment with institutional objectives to improve effectiveness of data usage across the organization.
* Ensure high level of alignment with requirements from Institutional and ITS leadership that support data-informed decisions
* Provide end-user and internal reporting and analytics products (dashboards, visualizations, etc).
* Build and/or integrate with the enterprise platform(s) for institutional analytics

Position Summary

* Development, deployment, maintenance, and support of PowerBI reports and dashboards, including the supporting data pipelines, to meet expressed needs by executive stakeholders.
* Development, maintenance, support, and migration or decommissioning of reports in legacy platforms
* Development, deployment, maintenance, and support of "Data Central" to provide a consolidated reporting and visualization self-service environment; expecting to provide 90% of functional daily needs for the institution.

Develop and support reports and dashboards that facilitate effective engagement with data and insights. Implement effective and efficient processes that help convert raw data into information and insights. Work closely with other members of related teams to ensure reports are producing (or supporting the production of) actionable information for stakeholders. Determine the scope and schedule for delivering reporting solutions. Proactively monitor risks & issues. Work with stakeholders to deliver based on agreed-upon schedules, budgets, and related resources.

Develop an extensible/scalable service for reporting on data. Work with stakeholders to identify new and existing reporting needs, to ensure the service supports expected use cases. Identify issues/opportunities/risks with the current offering, and create an actionable response plan that can be implemented. Ensure that the services/tools are designed and built to comply with, and at all times adhere to, institutional and organizational security, data privacy, and other risk & compliance policies, procedures, and controls.

This position primarily works within and supports the PowerBI environment, however, it will interact with additional reporting environments (WebFocus, ARGOS, Tableau) as they relate to institutional reporting objectives. This position will work closely with data stored in Banner, the Operational Data Store (ODS), Azure Data platforms/services, and other enterprise systems. Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution support activities within a complex integrated university-wide distributed reporting system environment.

This position works closely with other members of ITS and various departments around campus to implement large projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience or equivalent combination of education/experience

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 2 or more years of experience; or equivalent education and experience in a developer/integrations role required.
* Ability to design and implement data visualizations that make information accessible and understandable to all stakeholders regardless of statistical experience
* Experience with Microsoft PowerBI
* Ability to apply statistical concepts in order to analyze data efficiently and effectively
* Experience analyzing diverse data sets and creating solutions that scale efficiently
* Experience with effective use of data stored in Oracle and SQL databases
* Experience working with systems including but not limited to: MS Azure, BigQuery, ServiceNow, Banner ERP, WebFocus, ARGOS
* Experience working with diverse data visualization tools. Examples: PowerBI, Tableau, Google Data Studio
* Experience with applicable development/analysis/manipulation languages. Examples: PowerQuery/DAX, Python

Implement data products to support the delivery of actionable insights via dashboards, reports or other applicable mechanisms.

Essential Tasks

* Deliver Actionable Insights- Work with stakeholders to analyze and visualize data to support the mission of the Analytics program, the ITS division, and the University at large.
* Proactively Identify Opportunities & Risks - define the scope and schedule for delivering data visualization solutions. Proactively monitor deliverable's risks & issues. Work with stakeholders to deliver based on agreed-upon schedule, budget, and related resources.
* Analysis & Visualization Innovation - Test and implement new methods of analyzing and visualizing actionable information, to meet evolving needs of the organization and the University at large
* Analysis & Visualization Security, Risk & Compliance - Ensure that analysis & visualization services are designed and built to comply with, and at all times adhere to institutional and organizational security, data privacy, and other risk & compliance policies, procedures, and controls.

Percentage Of Time 15 Key Responsibility

Collaborate with members of the immediate and related teams to design, develop and maintain an effective and efficient reporting service for the institution.

* Best-Practices - Maintain current understanding of industry best practices and approaches as it applies to analyzing and visualizing big data use-cases
* Analyze - Drill into diverse datasets to surface trending information, actionable insights, in order to communicate effectively with stakeholders, supporting data-informed decision making ideals
* Big Ideas, Big Steps, Innovation - Identify, communicate, and champion new tools, technologies, and best practices for reporting & analytics.
* Maintenance & Support - Handle break/fix situations as well as delivery of solutions as a response to evolving organizational needs. Work with monitoring staff to respond to issues impacting system availability and performance.
* Governance - Work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to build solutions emphasizing proper data usage and governance. Understand and document data ownership, origin, state, and any transformation that occurs on data elements.
