Job Description:

Numericans excel at developing state-of-the-art algorithms and software that solve scientific problems with real-world applications. Working in small, innovative teams, our scientists and engineers build solutions that make a difference. As science fiction writer Arthur Clarke wrote, Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Numerica is seeking talented magicians to join in our common struggle to expand the boundary of whats possible.

What You Will Do:

Space Domain Awareness (SDA) includes the effective detection, tracking, identification, and characterization of near-Earth satellites and space debris, and the understanding of any factor associated with the space domain that could affect space operations and thereby impact the security, safety, economy, or environment of our Nation and its allies.

SDA Engineers / Orbital Analysts support Numericas growing programs in SDA through the development, maturation, and commercialization of Numericas SDA-related technologies, and through the generation, curation, and distribution of high-quality data and information products from our global telescope network.

The successful applicant will work on projects that carry varying responsibilities, such as:

  • Contribute to the direction of a talented small team with your expertise and ideas;
  • Develop software to help automate and enhance data processing and data visualization;
  • Provide analytical support to our SDA customers and support SDA training events;
  • Exercise Numericas SDA software using real-time and historical data, and perform quality assurance on its outputs;
  • Support ongoing and future transitions of Numericas SDA products and services to space operations centers and technology testbeds;
  • Engage with our SDA customers and other stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes for their mission-critical needs;
  • Prepare technical reports and briefing materials.
Recommended Background and Experience

  • B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant work experience (2 years credit given for an M.S.);
  • Proficiency with the Linux operating system and experience developing applications in at least two of the following software languages: Python, C/C++, and MATLAB;
  • Record of academic excellence, with training in astrodynamics, estimation theory, statistical analysis, remote sensing, machine learning, and optimization considered a plus;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to convey salient details about advanced technology in a compelling manner to both experts and non-experts alike.
U.S. Citizenship Required

Due to the nature of the work performed at Numerica, all applicants must be capable of obtaining a U.S. Security Clearance. At a minimum, this requires that a candidate be a U.S. citizen with a personal history indicating trustworthiness, reliability, and sound judgement (e.g., clean criminal record, no use of illegal drugs, etc.).

Salary range: $80,900-$164,300 estimated annual base salary plus incentives
