The Small Animal General Surgery position is responsible for the surgical management of the small animal caseload at the VTH. Specifically, this position provides surgical consultations, manages surgical appointments (receiving), performs general surgery and teaches on the clinic floor. This position will support both clinical and didactic teaching in the DVM program, graduate student/resident and fellow training, and research in the area of small animal general surgery. The position also supports an important clinical service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) both in terms of client service and revenue generation. This faculty position will provide 18-22 weeks of clinical service. Additionally, we expect the successful candidate will develop an independent impactful research program and participate in collaborative research. Numerous opportunities for collaborative research exist throughout the college and university. Conditions of Employment Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires) Required Job Qualifications - DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree. - Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), or candidates qualified to take the ACVS/ECVS certification examination are welcome to apply Preferred Job Qualifications - Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or equivalent. - 2 or more years expertise in clinical service and instruction of veterinary students and residents and demonstrated ability to work with others in a team atmosphere. - Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree and/or postdoctoral research experience. Didactic: Provide lecture and laboratory instruction on topics related to surgery throughout the veterinary curriculum. Percentage Of Time 35 Job Duty Category Research/Scholarly Activity Duty/Responsibility Research effort will include independent and collaborative research with other departmental faculty and initiation and participation in veterinary clinical trials. Scholarly activity will include publication of high impact original research. Professional and lay publications (e.g. book chapters) in the discipline of surgery will also contribute to this category. Percentage Of Time 35 Job Duty Category University & Professional Service/Outreach Duty/Responsibility Clinical Service: Provide 18-22 weeks of clinical activity in the Small Animal General Surgery Service. Outreach: Provide phone and/or email consultation for veterinarians in Colorado and other states. Develop and participate in continuing education programs for veterinarians at Colorado State University and other locations. Administrative: Participate in Departmental, College, and University administrative committees as well as active participation in the organization and implementation of the goals for the Small Animal General Surgery Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
