Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Student Health Service offers comprehensive primary and preventive health care to the UNCG University community. A strong commitment is made to maintaining professional excellence in addressing the health problems that are unique to this adolescent/young adult population in an effort to:

* minimize loss to education for health reasons; * protect the health of individuals within the University community; * educate students toward the achievement of a healthy lifestyle; * contribute to the maintenance of a safe and healthy atmosphere in which students, faculty and staff live and work.

The mission of Student Health Services is to provide collaborative health care designed to empower students to develop lifelong skills that enhance their physical, psychological and wellness status in an inclusive and affirming environment and promote student success and retention.

Position Summary

The primary objective of the Associate Physician position is to provide primary health care to the students within the University community. This includes diagnosis and treatment of a broad scope of medical illnesses, recognition and referral of psychological concerns and participation in health promotion and disease prevention education.

In addition to providing primary health care, the Associate Physician precepts medical and nurse practitioner students, as well as residents. They also serve as a back up collaborator/supervisor to staff nurse practitioners and physician assistants in the Medical Clinic. Position requires active participation in staff meetings, QI meetings (if indicated), peer review, and other operational committees (if needed).

Minimum Qualifications

The Associate Physician must be licensed or licensed eligible physician in the State of North Carolina and have a current DEA license and NPI number. Experience in family medicine, internal medicine, or urgent care medicine is required. Significant experience in college health and experience in working with a diverse student body, faculty and staff is preferred. The Associate Physician is required to meet all quality assurance criteria and standards of medical practice established by state, institutional and regulatory bodies.

The Associate Physician should have no unresolved medical malpractice claims, patient complaints with state medical boards or other negative citations as documented by the National Practitioner's Data Bank.

* Participates on specified committees within Student Health Services. * Serves as physician consultant with other providers in Student Health Services and Counseling Center. * Serves as backup to the Assistant Medical Director.

* Acts as a back-up supervisor/clinical collaborator for physician assistants/nurse practitioners working in the clinic. * Participates in precepting of medical/nurse practitioner students who rotates through the clinic.

* Remains current on health/medical trends. * Maintains continuing education requirements as required by North Carolina Medical Board and American Board of Medical Specialties. * Participates in quality improvement (QI) and peer review activities as well as clinical record review.
