Eligible Description of Work Unit
The work unit exists to oversee, monitor, execute, regulate,
supply, and assure the effectiveness and efficiency of those
services necessary for fulfilling the goals of teaching, research
and continuing education central to the academic mission of the
Department of Clinical Sciences and the College of Veterinary
Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This work unit also exists to
exercise a higher degree of decision making and independence by
functioning with less direction.
The Clinical Sciences Accounting Technician III provides
professional, technical and administrative leadership in developing
and executing fiscal strategies, policies and procedures in support
of the overall strategic missions of CSU, CVMBS and Clinical
Sciences and its programs. This position performs high level
technical accounting which utilizes all four functional areas of
accounting: recording, classifying, verifying, and reporting.
Specifically, this involves grant budget development and
implementation; oversight, guidance, and direction for fiscal
operations and management; and extensive knowledge of compliance
requirements for federal OMB Uniform Guidance, university and state
fiscal rules, sponsor expectations, donor intentions, and other
rules and regulations as applicable. This position reports to the
Clinical Sciences Business Officer, and works closely with the
faculty, and Department Head. He/she is an important member of the
administrative team, and works closely with other Clinical Sciences
- Minimum three years of experience in financial management
including budgeting and account reconciliation and post-award

The highly desired candidate will possess the following
knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and
experience directly related to this position:
- Experience fostering collaboration across multiple parties at
various hierarchical levels.
- Experience interpreting and ensuring compliance with regulatory
- Experience with Cost Accounting Standards including federal OMB
Uniform Guidance and ability to applying them in an operational
setting while developing and executing methods and means to assure
- Experience managing project budgets with multiple funding
sources and or cost/sharing requirements.
- Financial working knowledge within an institution of higher
- Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates
are expected to have the ability to advance the Department's

- Demonstration of active, successful work in a leadership
capacity within a professional business setting involving the
simultaneous execution of multiple programs and initiatives.
- Demonstration of strong, effective oral and written

significant experience in Word, Outlook, Excel and Access.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills combined with the ability
to assess compliance needs and accurately interpret, translate and
execute them for understanding and use by supervisees and/or
clients / constituents.
