Read more here: Salary Competitive Benefits Full benefits Closing date of competition 9/16/13 Date position available TBD Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION: FACULTY POSITION - Assistant Professor, Specialty Crops, research and education, 9-month, tenure-track, in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, College of Agricultural Sciences. Full benefits and competitive salary.RESPONSIBILITIES - Conduct research and teach specialty crop production and utilization, including the application of organic methods. The specialty crops of greatest focus for this position are vegetable and fruit crops important in Colorado. The appointee is expected to:Teach courses in vegetable and/or fruit crops and in organic production methods. Some courses are taught in alternate years and/or are co-taught with other faculty; the current teaching assignment averages four semester credits per academic year. Advise undergraduate and graduate students.Design educational programs that deliver the results of specialty crops research to end users in Colorado. This can/should include production and marketing recommendations delivered via some combination of demonstrations and field days, workshops, electronic communication, and/or farm visits.Develop a research program focused on solving problems and promoting opportunities for specialty crop growers in Colorado, including organic and small farm producers, with emphasis on vegetable crops. Communication of research results is expected to include various forms of scholarly publications.Maintain a liaison role with the Colorado Department of Agriculture (Markets Division) which may include administration of that agency's program of grants to specialty crop growers.Obtain external funding to support development and maintenance of an aggressive, comprehensive program that generates and communicates information to Colorado's specialty crop producers.
