Terracon Consultants is growing and hiring environmental professionals in the Northern Colorado Area! We are looking for an accomplished, Environmental Geologist/Engineer for our growing practice in our Fort Collins, Colorado office. Our Fort Collins office is uniquely located and works on exciting projects including environmental due diligence, site assessment, air quality, remediation, redevelopment, regulatory compliance work, and site renovation work for City and County agencies, school districts, commercial real property developers and managers, law firms, financial institutions, architect/engineer and construction (A/E/C) clients. This position is for a career-level environmental professional who will be responsible for acquiring, planning, scheduling, conducting, or coordinating site testing, developing analytical testing plans, and making recommendations for design on projects varying in size and complexity. In this position the candidate must be able to identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. The candidate will be experienced in preparing technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence to support existing clients and project portfolios, and expand our service offerings.

As the Environmental Geologist/Engineer, you will work closely with the Department Manager and will work with a team that oversees environmental investigation and remediation projects and ensure that work is performed on time, on budget, and meets our client's requirements and company policies, procedures and standards. You and your team will work together to inquire on future project work, prepare winning proposals and you will help to deliver proper scoping of services, availability of staff, and pricing to be profitable. You will prepare and review reports and will coach and mentor junior staff on quality data generation and reporting. As a senior practitioner, you will have the opportunity to lead the daily operations of a growing team including safety, staff training & development, performance conversations, utilization of equipment and facilities, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and overall quality and client experience. You will also get the opportunity to work with the office leadership team and environmental service line leadership to develop an Operations Plan and a business development strategy for your group with the goal of growing the environmental planning practice. As a Environmental Geologist/Engineer you will also participate in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, win, and execute exciting project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client development activities and work with our team to develop a book of business in traditional environmental services for the Northern Colorado and Wyoming Areas and support growth in other regional offices.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Work proactively within our National Client Account Program for successful, timely, project delivery in northern Colorado and our Wyoming Region.
  • Collaborate with department managers and staff in five Colorado offices.
  • Develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding. Mentor, supervise, and oversee staff environmental scientists.
  • Provide environmental support to multiple services lines including industrial hygiene, geotechnical services, construction and building materials, and facilities.
  • Work as a team member and participate with business development staff, senior environmental staff, and management on large, complex projects and pursuits.
  • Oversee and manage the success of the key group metrics of retention, revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risks. Employ best practices for risk management and loss prevention. Be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects for incident and injury free operations.
  • Promote continuous quality review and improvement on projects.
  • Collaborate with Environmental managers and staff in other Terracon offices to team on large project efforts and promote best practices.
  • Possess strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Possess skills to become Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one of more environmental/technical areas.
  • Understand and implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Ability to make recommendations for conceptual designs based on technical data.
  • Ability to develop written proposals to clients for both small and large projects.
  • Experienced in evaluating, and synthesizing complex laboratory and field data, and assembly in written reports.
  • Serve as an inter-disciplinary team member in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection in area of technical expertise.
  • Understand and follow project quality and corporate quality standards for all projects.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum of 5 years' related experience;
  • Have or be able to acquire certifications that may include:
  • Colorado Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Civil, Chemical or Environmental
  • Professional Geologist (P.G.).
  • Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Designer (QSD), Practitioner (QSP) and/or Industrial Practitioner (QISP).

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
  • Ability to travel out of town up to 50% of the normal work week.
  • Flexible work schedule, to ensure project timelines are completed.
  • Possess strong writing skills.
  • Attention to detail, note taking skills.
  • Ability to work on a team and build networks across northern Colorado and Wyoming.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using the Microsoft Office Suite.
