Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit HDFS, one of nine departments within the School of Health and Human Sciences, is a highly collaborative, research-oriented department that values interdisciplinary study, diversity, and internationalization. The department has 24 full-time faculty, over 700 undergraduate majors, and approximately 100 graduate students in MEd, MS, and PhD programs. Students of color make up over 50% of the student population in HDFS. The department is committed to a faculty that is representative of the diverse community and student population it serves. Approximately half of the undergraduate majors are enrolled in the Child, Youth, and Family Development concentration which has a required internship placement capstone experience. Position Summary The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) seeks to hire a 12-month Academic Professional Track (APT) Internship Coordinator in HDFS who will serve as the coordinator for the undergraduate internship program. We are seeking a colleague whose interests focus on supporting students in their professional development, collaborating with community agencies, and supervising interns in professional placements. The successful candidate should have experience working with students from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds across diverse settings. The position has a start date of August 1, 2021. Collaboratively oversee the internship program with responsibilities of this position including: Teaching HDFS courses, including a professional development course focused on preparing students for successful transition to internship placements and post-graduation careers; Assisting pre-interns in preparing for their internship search, approving appropriate placement sites, and securing placements with site supervisors; Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships and clear communications with site supervisors and campus partners; Supervising student interns enrolled in required internship course; Maintaining a database and documentation of all completed internships within the department; Developing and revising internship policies and procedures; Supporting the department through university and professional service; and Advising undergraduate HDFS majors. Minimum Qualifications Master of Science, Master of Education, or Master of Arts degree. (requirements completed by August 1, 2021) in Child Development, Human Development and Family Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education. Preferred Qualifications Experience in career/professional development which may include teaching, advising, consulting, mentoring, or training. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring university students representing diverse racial, socioeconomic, ability, generational, and cultural backgrounds. Experience with internship placement and supervision. Doctoral degree in Child Development, Human Development and Family Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a closely related field. Experience building relationships with community partners and professionals. Experience with online teaching (synchronous and asynchronous), course development, and delivery. APT positions are fixedterm, renewable faculty positions that support the applied aspects of academic programs in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies and allow for promotion to the ranks of APT Associate Professor and APT Professor.
