Now Hiring: Full Time Animal Care Volunteer Coordinator Starting Pay: $16.00/hour 40 hours/week, full availability required General The Animal Care Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the onboarding, training, supervision and support of shelter animal care volunteers. This position works closely with the Sheltering & Adoptions team to assure adequate, well-trained volunteers to assist with shelter animal care. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the onboarding, supervision, training, and continuing education of onsite shelter animal care volunteers.
  • Develops and coordinates onboarding and ongoing educational training for animal care volunteers.
  • Oversees advanced shelter animal care volunteers, and ensures compliance with the expectations associated with these positions.
  • Communicates as needed with animal care volunteers; providing them with updates, information, and training opportunities.
  • Communicates with directors and operations managers on a regular basis in regard to volunteer needs, training and appreciation. Reports this information to the Volunteer Program Manager as appropriate.
  • Mitigates and addresses conflicts or performance issues that arise with animal care volunteers according to the Procedure for Addressing Volunteer Behavioral Concerns
  • Supports the Volunteer Program Manager with volunteer database management as requested.
  • Supports the Volunteer Program Manager in coordinating semi-annual volunteer appreciation events and volunteer get-togethers.
  • Acts as a liaison between Animal Friends Alliance volunteers and staff.
  • Has a thorough understanding and working knowledge of programs. Other Duties:
    • Attends quarterly operations manager meetings, weekly departmental meetings as requested, and one-on-one meetings with direct supervisor.
    • Attends quarterly staff meetings for the full Animal Friends Alliance team.
    • Participates in developing annual strategic goals for the volunteer program.
    • Helps to determine, and manage, the animal care volunteer program budget.
    • Supports the Volunteer Program Manager with fundraising and special events. Organization Wide Duties:
      • Treats animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job, and conveys these values to others, in word and action.
      • Represents Animal Friends Alliance in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
      • Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff, recognizing their individual contributions to Animal Friends Alliance. Monitors, supports, motivates and champions volunteers and their work.
      • Solicits monetary and in-kind donations by raising awareness of the organization's work, goals, and financial needs.
      • Follows all safety rules to ensure a safe work environment at all times. Takes immediate action to address any safety concerns or noncompliance issues that could put an animal, employee, volunteer, visitor, or the organization at risk.
      • Learns basic duties of other departments, and supports other departments and staff.
      • Monitors, supports, motivates and accredits volunteers and their work.
      • Understands and operates by Animal Friends Alliance's core values.
      • Regular and timely presence onsite. Work Environment:
        • Work performed in an animal shelter, animal clinic, and office setting
        • Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases and cleaning chemicals
        • Potential for exposure to dangerous and fractious animals
        • Potential exposure to high noise levels when in kennel area
        • Potential for animal bites and scratches while handling animals Unusual Demands:
          • Work is subject to frequent interruptions.
          • Employee is subject to work weekends, holidays and beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.
          • Employee is subject to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Education/Experience: Education
            • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
            • Preferred: College diploma. Experience:
              • Required: One year working with volunteers and one year working with animals.
              • Preferred: One year supervising volunteers and one year working with animals. Miscellaneous
                • Valid Driver's License: Required

                  • Knowledge of Google Suite, including Gmail and Google Drive.
