Located at an elevation of 5,000 feet, Fort Collins has a clear, dry climate and generally pleasant temperature throughout the year.AmeriCorps is a national service organization that provides people an opportunity to serve in locations across the country. 4-H is the youth development program of the United States Department of Agriculture and is implemented by Colorado State University Extension ( CSUE ). Since August 2015, CSUE , with an AmeriCorps grant from Serve Colorado, has implemented the CSUE 4-H STEM AmeriCorps Program (Program). The Program engages approximately 20 AmeriCorps members (10 FTEs) and supports them in providing direct delivery of STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) education to limited resource youth in out-of-school settings (afterschool programs, libraries, and community centers). The AmeriCorps members will serve from and be supervised by Extension staff in counties across the State. An Extension agent will provide direct supervision. The Program anticipates improved educational and behavioral outcomes for economically disadvantaged youth and support for their positive attitudes toward STEM and academics, and career readiness. Our Program and opportunities continue to evolve and future iterations will serve different and new audiences. This position will support the Program no matter the focus. For example, supporting AmeriCorps VISTA members, a veteran serving program, etc. For more information on Colorado State University Extension and 4-H, go to: http://extension.colostate.edu.Colorado State University encourages professional development and provides an Employee Study Privilege (http://www.hrs.colostate.edu/benefits/study-privilege.html) with up to 9 credit hours of tuition assistance annually.Position Summary The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, providing training and technical assistance, and the successful implementation and on-going support of the Program such that AmeriCorps, university, county partner, community and member expectations are met. The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator must have a passion for education, youth and communities and be able to inspire others to engage and invest in the Program. The individual will work with the program team to ensure that processes and materials are in place to implement a successful Program. They will also work with supervisors, host and partner sites, and Extension and university staff, to ensure roles are understood and the Program is implemented. While the coordinator does not directly supervise AmeriCorps members, they support supervisors, partners, and members success, and they are responsible for creating opportunities that enhance the esprit de corps among members, coordinating service-learning opportunities, and marketing the program.As a member of the program team, this individual provides support for successful implementation and management of the Program. The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the AmeriCorps Program Manager (Program Manager) and the 4-H STEM K-12 Specialist, under the direct supervision of the Program Manager.Required Job Qualifications

  • Completed bachelors degree.
  • Degree (or one degree) must have been conferred in an area that provides a strong background in and understanding of youth development, public administration, non-profit management, STEM , education, community development and/or engagement or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of two years professional program leadership experience including supervision, coaching, and grant implementation/management.
  • Strong leadership and organization skills and ability to engage/develop resources and closely monitor all aspects of the Program.
  • Evidence of drive and initiative. Must be a self-starter, flexible, and have the ability to work under limited supervision with independent judgement.
  • Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.
  • Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
  • Ability to pass a mandated AmeriCorps background check.Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Completed masters degree.
  • Working knowledge of the AmeriCorps program, its policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with behavioral management, facilitation, and mediation skills.
  • Prior professional Extension and/or AmeriCorps experience(s).
  • Ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations.
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs.

    • Be knowledgeable of AmeriCorps grant requirements and related rules; ensure that the Program is in compliance with grant and university rules, regulations, and expectations; collect data and submit reports as required.
    • Work closely with the program team to problem solve and effectively align resources to ensure Program and member success.
    • Consistently implement program policies, procedures and practices as required and appropriate
    • Implement processes to ensure that host sites and partner sites have clear expectations and know their roles and responsibilities in regards to the Program, member service, participation and reporting.
    • Plan and implement AmeriCorps member orientation, trainings, regional meetings, and participation in retreat(s); conduct monthly (minimum) check-in conference calls, observe and monitor member performance, and provide for additional support as needed for member and Program success.
    • Annually conduct a minimum of two site visits to each host site to support Program implementation, monitor progress and provide guidance/course correction as needed.
    • Monitor all reports (OnCorps reporting system), ensure accurate records and documentation, and maintain member personnel files ensuring compliance with AmeriCorps and university guidelines.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Percentage Of Time 60% Job Duty Category Member Training and Development, Recruitment and Management Duty/Responsibility
      • Design and implement the AmeriCorps member recruitment and selection process: train and support participating Extension staff and host sites to complete the process annually.
      • Develop strategies for member retention and recognition.
      • Plan and implement training(s) for those who will be supervising AmeriCorps Members; plan and conduct monthly (minimum) check-in conference calls and provide additional support as needed.
      • Work with supervisors, AmeriCorps members and delivery sites to develop individual member service plans that support member development and completion of service requirements.
      • Support the Program in coordinating professional development opportunities for members.
      • Work closely with AmeriCorps supervisors to monitor member performance, activities, reporting and needs.
      • Help to coordinate and support service-learning opportunities and National Days of Service.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty Category Initiate and Develop Relationships and Partnerships Duty/Responsibility
        • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the PT, and CSUE directors and staff engaged in the Program as well as Extension and community partners implementing the Program.
        • Promote visibility of the Program and sponsors within communities, CSU , and Extension.
        • Seek out opportunities to partner and collaborate with other AmeriCorps programs operating within these locations.
