RESEARCH INTERN - ELECTRON MICROSCOPY AND STRUCTURAL

Summary:The goal of the internship is to elucidate the structural
mechanism of action of a cytokine in complex with its receptor(s).
The intern will use electron microscopy techniques such as negative
staining, preparation of cryo grids, as well as operation of a T12
electron microscope at CU Boulder to determine structural elements
of these proteins. Additionally, the intern will be exposed to
peptide chemistry and workflow.Internship Job Duties:
- Design reaction strategies and calculations for complex
assembly
- Perform negative staining experiments as well as cryo grids
using a Mark IV Vitroblot
- Process resulting data using software such as Relion, EMAN2 or
Xmipp
- Fully document work in detail as well as frequently interface
to update project strategies and deliverables.
- Communicate and present data to our internal team.
- Strong remote work, time management and communications skillset
are considered critical.Internship Qualifications:
- The candidate is pursuing a Bachelors, MS or a PhD degree in
Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Computational Biology, Chemistry,
Computational Chemistry, or equivalent field
- Experience in electron microscopy techniques as well as protein
expression and purification are strongly desired but not
required
- Experience with protein-protein binding techniques such as SPR
is desired but not required
- The ideal candidate has taken a class and/or lab at the
undergraduate level in Organic Chemistry
- Experience with basic organic chemistry and safety procedures
(experience with peptide chemistry is a plus but not required)
- Experience in a programming language and HPC environment is
preferred but not required
- Is comfortable with reporting results to an internal teamFull
