Description of Work Unit
Colorado State University's ( CSU ) Office of Sponsored Programs (
OSP ) invites
nominations and applications for the position of Senior Research
Administrator ( SRA ). Sponsored Programs is the primary
coordinating and managerial office for externally funded activities
of a contractual nature at CSU . OSP oversees the full-range of
research administration from proposal review and submission to
final invoicing and project close-out.
Colorado State University is a land-grant Carnegie Class
Doctoral/Research-Extensive University experiencing aggressive
growth in faculty recruitment, student enrollment, and research
expenditures. Research productivity per tenure-track faculty member
is among the highest in the country within like universities.
CSU is a member of the Kuali Foundation, using Kuali Financial
System ( KFS ) and Kuali Research (KR) for integrated research
administration. CSU is a member and active in the Federal
Demonstration Partnership ( FDP ) and the Council on Governmental
Relations ( COGR ).
Position Summary
The Senior Research Administrator ( SRA ) reports to the Associate
Director of Sponsored Programs. Senior Research Administrators
serve as advocates for faculty in fostering outstanding research
and scholarly activities and assure the responsible management of
sponsored funds through regulatory and fiscal compliance oversight.
The SRA also serves as delegated signature authority to sign
Research and Sponsored Agreements, including master agreements,
assistance awards, sub-awards, research contracts, material
transfer agreements, intellectual property management plans, data
use agreements, teaming agreements, confidential/non-disclosure
agreements, amendments and/or other agreements pertaining to
request for research or scientific/technical services.
This position has the opportunity to be a fully remote
position.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years with a combination of
research administration, contracting or related experience. In lieu
of a degree, a High School Diploma (or GED ) plus 9 years of
research administration, contracting or related experience in an
academic, research institute, or government setting will be
accepted.
Experience working in a quasi-legal environment including knowledge
of applicable federal and state regulations (Uniform Guidance and
the FAR ) and their application to contract review & negotiation,
budget review, and compliance
Knowledge of various funding source requirements (such as NIH , NSF
, USDA , and DOD )
Experience working with private sector sponsors
Skills in written communications; interpersonal &
problem-solving
Strong working knowledge of common office computer applications
(such as Microsoft Office applications) and ability to learn
specialized applications (such as Kuali Research).
Preferred Job Qualifications
Direct knowledge and demonstrated experience with electronic
management systems.
Ability to conduct training sessions and develop training
materials
Experience supervising, developing and evaluating staff.

Duty/Responsibility
Responsible for all aspects of contract and grant administration
and provides services to faculty and staff with the assigned
college/division. Responsible for reviewing, and authorization of
proposals to various agencies (federal and non-federal),
negotiation and approval of contracts, establishing and managing
accounts, and assuring compliance with terms and conditions of
awards on active projects, and close out procedures.

Duty/Responsibility
Analyze the terms of contractual arrangements between the
University and external sponsors to ensure that they are
technically, legally, and financially satisfactory, negotiating
with the sponsor, and ultimately approving acceptance by the
University. Gather critical award data and brief faculty on their
compliance obligations. Negotiate award terms of sponsored
agreements on behalf of CSU .

Duty/Responsibility
The SRA is responsible for ensuring compliance with University,
State, Federal and Sponsor requirements, and the interpretation and
application of government/sponsor guidelines and policies. SRAs
assure compliance with complex requirements of funding sources, as
well as Federal and State regulations and assist in the development
of policies and procedures related to the conduct of sponsored
activities at the University. Design special procedures as
necessary to achieve compliance with individual sponsor/program
requirements. Communicate potential problems to PIs, Department and
Colleges; work out solution strategies with Assistant to Deans,
Research Associate Deans, of through the Vice President for
Research.

Duty/Responsibility
Provides guidance, direction, assistance, and instruction to
faculty regarding the proper application and adaptation of Federal,
State and University rules and regulations in the development of
proposals, authorizing such submission on behalf of the university.
Develop solutions to emerging issues. Evaluate University policies
and procedures to address specific circumstances of the sponsor
and/or program. Educate the University community on research
administration issues.

associations and interacting with colleagues.
