CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.To learn more about CEMMLs contributions to land management, our mission, vision, and values, visit http://www.cemml.colostate.edu/ Position Summary The GIS Analyst/Python Developer will work with a wide array of on-campus partners inside and outside of CEMML to develop data, scripts, and applications in support of CEMMLs Wildland Fire Management Program. The primary duties of this position include 1) GIS data analysis of raster and vector data and 2) Python scripting to support data analysis and workflow automation and to support primarily raster-based GIS analyses. The Wildland Fire Management Program utilizes both commercial software (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, Forest Service fire behavior models, etc.) and internally developed scripts and applications, both of which the GIS Analyst/Python Developer will support. The GIS Analyst/Python Developer may also take part in a wide variety of other technical tasks including, but not limited to, Excel spreadsheet analyses, remote sensing, statistical analysis, wildland fire management planning, and spatial wildfire risk assessment. Required Job Qualifications + Minimum of a bachelors degree (BS or BA).+ Professional experience as a GIS Analyst carrying out complex analysis processes with raster and vector data.+ At least three years of professional experience carrying out medium to large-scale automation processes.+ Experience with ArcPy and Numpy Python libraries.+ Proven experience working on code as part of a team, and specifically giving and receiving feedback on code.+ Proven ability using versioning control technology such as Git.+ Demonstrated technical analysis skills including data analysis in Excel.+ Experience developing highly technical processes and/or algorithms.+ Exceptional organizational skills.+ Strong written and oral communication skills.The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. Preferred Job Qualifications + Masters of Science (MS) or Doctorate (PhD) in a field and/or including coursework relevant to the job description.+ Preference for those whose analysis experience includes Earth Sciences datasets and data formats (e.g. NetCDF).+ Familiarity with one or more of the following technologies is desirable but not required:+ SQL and relational databases+ Matlab+ Remote Sensing+ Geoserver, PostGIS+ Familiarity with wildland fire or natural resources is a plus but is not required. Percentage Of Time 10% Job Duty Category Generate Ideas Duty/Responsibility Work with the Wildland Fire Program Manager, and others, to generate ideas with a realistic chance of being funded for future projects and improvements to existing projects.
