Do you want to make a difference for children in your community? The Department of Human Services is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, enthusiastic and inclusive staff member to join our Benefits and Community Support (BCS) Division as a Child Support Technician!

Child Support Technicians ensure that children receive financial and medical support from both parents by locating parents and establishing paternity, child support, and medical support. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, hybrid position with at least one day per week in the office.

Specifically, this position:

  • Handles a caseload of between 100-600 child support cases.
  • Locates parents and their assets using a variety of automated and manual processes.
  • Initiates actions to establish paternity and child support orders.
  • Analyzes cases to figure out appropriate legal and/or administrative actions.
  • Performs legal and court research in judicial systems, state databases, and in collaboration with other jurisdictions to establish and/or enforce child support obligations.
  • Documents contacts, correspondence, and all actions taken for each case in the Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES).
  • Conducts interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents to establish and/or enforce child support orders.

    We are looking for a candidate that will:
    • Think critically, problem solve and possess strong math skills.
    • Have experience using word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
    • Analyze and understand Child Support, Statutes, procedures, Rules and Regulations.
    • Have prior legal, collections and/or experience in a state or county Child Support setting.
    • Read and understand legal documents such as orders, judgments, and liens on property.
    • Calmly deescalate communications with difficult clients.
    • Obtain and maintain State certification in Administrative Process Action and/or Automated Enforcement as a condition of employment.

      All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

      Depending on qualifications, this position will hire as Child Support Technician I or II.

      Child Support Technician I
      • High School Diploma or GED required.
      • Possession of, or ability to obtain, State Administrative Process Action certification (APA) required.
      • One (1) year of experience in a legal, collections, or Human Services setting with extensive public contact required.
      • Certification as a Notary Public preferred.
        Child Support Technician II
        • High School Diploma or GED required.
        • Possession of, or ability to obtain, State Administrative Process Action certification (APA) required.
        • Three (3) years as a Child Support Technician I with Larimer County, or of related experience, with a minimum of one (1) year directly equivalent to a Child Support Technician I required.
        • Associates degree with coursework emphasis in Human Services, Human Behavioral Science, Paralegal or a related field, or equivalent education and experience is preferred.

            Larimer County will be adjusting pay ranges effective January 13, 2023. Please visit our website at to view more information. This posting has been adjusted to reflect the new 2023 pay rate.

            The typical schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

            This position is a hybrid position and will require at least one day/week in the office. You will be required to have adequate internet access and space for remote work. Larimer County provides an annual remote work stipend to assist with equipment and office supply needs for remote workspaces.

            In-office work will be performed at one of the following three locations: 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO; 2555 Midpoint Drive, Fort Collins, CO; 200 Peridot Avenue, Loveland, CO

            All new employees and rehires will be required to submit fingerprints for a CBI criminal background check (c.r.s. 26-6-104).

            An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
